A blog scheduling experiment
Add comment!April 12th, 2010
For the past year and a half, we've been writing a blog post every day. While we're pretty confident that it has lead to the steady growth of the Wolfire blog, the truth is, we don't know how it compares to other strategies because we've never tried anything else. So we're thinking about blogging slightly less often just to see how it goes.
Reasons to try a reduced blog schedule
We only really have one data point with respect to our blogging practices. While blogging everyday seems to be working we'd be curious to get a better indication of whether or not it's optimal.
With a slightly reduced schedule we'd have a little more time to either write higher quality posts or spend more time directly on game development (you may have noticed we've been hiding David from the blog so he can add tons of new features to OG).
If we have a post that seems to be getting a lot of comments and/or traffic, we'll be able to let it linger on the front page of the blog instead of covering it up right away.
We'll have a little bit more room for the occasional guest post if people have polished perspectives on game development that they'd like to share with the community.
Will traffic fall? Will subscribership to our pages go down? Will preorders slow? These are very important questions, and instead of mulling them over in our heads, we're thinking about giving it a try. What do you guys think, should we test out a less frequent blog schedule?
