Iterative parallax mapping

By David on July 10th, 2007

I started to revisit the terrain surface shading today, and implemented parallax mapping to give a greater feeling of depth to the ground.

Parallax mapping is one of the most impressive shader functions, and it looks awesome here.

It’s great to see some updates. Thanks.

YES! Finally an update, and during all the excitement surrounding E3 too!

But honestly, that second pic looks real!

Great job David, and I hope we’ll see more updates soon, though I would understand if we didn’t. :)

Yes! Something new to drool over! Honestly i dont know how you are able to make it look so beautiful w/ so few developers!

    An update! Great!
What about performance, David? Are there any tweaks and know-how techniques involved, or is this a standard parallax mapping?

    That.

    Looks.

    Smexy.

No doubt. It looks fantastic and it’s gonna mix really well with Lugaru 2’s style. Excellent!

Whoa! thats impressive, ive seen parallax mapping alot, but that still had some swim over it (weird artifact that caused the texture to move over the ” bumpmap” )

is that also featured in the demo? (is there a demo with iterative parallax mapping out there to test textures on? would be nice :) )

They look… REAL, better than any shadings and textures that i’ve ever seen.

Does any one even know what year this game is coming out. I have wanted to play this game ever since they announced that it was being made. I don’t need to know when a demo is coming out it would be nice for a estimate on when the actual game is coming out. Please respond, and if you do THANK YOU!

This game has great graphics! I know this is cliché, but it looks like Gears of War or something like that! I also don’t mean to be annoying(I do have patience so I’m willing to wait for it,) but a demo, even if you can’t attack yet, would be beautiful. If it would take too much time to set up though, then forget about. I would like the game to be finished! :)
