Starting fur

By David on June 18th, 2006

I basically applied the grass shader to Turner, and this is what he looks like! I am going to have to tweak it a lot to make it look more like fur (anisotropic lighting, edge highlighting, etc)

This looks fantastic! Much more realistic than just “painted” bodies. I think it looks great as it is, disheveled and shaggy ;)

  2. james m - June 18th, 2006 at 2:10 am

Ha, that is quite awesome indeed. Realism factor ++

  3. Nuky - June 18th, 2006 at 2:23 am

Yay, Turner is growing algees and stuff! :D
Pretty neat! Just look at the fur at the body curves and stuff. Makes it look pretty realistic!
    Awesomeness factor ++

Very cool, so far. Looks kind of pleated in that bunched-up way. Ace. But, if you can get it looking better, go for it!

Of course, I hope we’ll be seeing a big puffy tail too. It just wouldn’t be Lugaru without a big puffy tail.

    Yayyyyyyyyyy! :D

  6. Nazgul11 - June 18th, 2006 at 7:08 am

FURRR!!!!! :D He looks much more like an animal now. Great job, even if its not done yet.

  7. zatoichi - June 18th, 2006 at 10:25 am

that looks amazing! could we get a full body shot?

  8. Zantalo - June 18th, 2006 at 10:44 am

Hey great job, that’s an awesome way to use your resources!

Who knew grass shaders could double up as fur too? Not only that, but it doesn’t look like grass at all. It looks like you created an entire fur texture from scratch. When you program something, it really gets programmed well.

    Thats awesome! :D

  12. Jeff - June 20th, 2006 at 2:18 pm

GLFighters is Mac only unfortunately. It was made for the uDevGame contest a long time ago, so it probably won’t be ported.

ah, ok. that sucks lol it looks pretty cool.

Is it too early too ask for some system requirements? I don’t want to download the demo (too early to ask for a demo?) and find out that the game is too badass for my processor to handle.

  15. MacWiggy - July 4th, 2006 at 5:02 am

By the way, when are we gonna see some GAMEPLAY changes?

  16. Zaph - July 4th, 2006 at 12:39 pm

I think we’re going to see some fighting in the coming weeks.
I can’t wait! I’m practically checking the blog on a daily basis!
Need more updates! I’m like a zombie! Updaaaaatess…

About the system requirements, I think, for full detail, you’d need something
like 512mb - 1GB RAM, and a relatively new graphics card (128-256, DirectX 8-9 compatible). I’m not sure about the processor though. Probably something like 1,6-2,5 GHz.
    I dunno. :P

But we’ve been told that you can turn down/off a lot of details, and it’ll still run smoothly on older computers. Which is good, graphics aren’t everything, you need a game so fluid as Lugaru 2 is to run smoothly,
unless you wanna watch your ass getting kicked in a slideshow. :P

That being said, I hope I won’t have to turn down details, they all look so yummy!
Realistic water, fur, grass, HDR, ect… Mmm…
    I’m drooling already. :D

Uh, well, I’ve rambled enough. Can’t wait for more updates! ;D

    oh man its coool :)

  18. turner - July 4th, 2006 at 9:21 pm

i dont think turner is going to be cool? i think he is more preety in lugaru 1
    :\

  19. MacWiggy - July 7th, 2006 at 11:31 am

“I’m not sure about the processor though. Probably something like 1,6-2,5 GHz.”

That’s what they said about Stubbs the Zombie, but that game runs like a pig through butter. (That’s bad)

  20. Zaph - July 7th, 2006 at 2:23 pm

Oh, well, I really have no idea. XP
But it also depends on what kind of processor you’ve got, I guess.
Stubbs is pretty cool though! (I’ve only played the demo)

  21. morgant - July 8th, 2006 at 5:22 am

    Looks excellent David!

Yeah, I check the blog about twice a day on average. Not sure about the fighting, but heres to hoping. :)

Is the grassy fur effect going to be applied to the wolves?

  24. David - August 11th, 2006 at 10:26 am

This fur effect is actually not going to be in-game, I am going to completely redo it closer towards completion (after gameplay and everything). I am also planning to work with the ATI and NVidia teams to make sure all the shaders are as optimized and good-looking as possible.

  25. wasb - November 7th, 2006 at 11:44 am
